Matthew 16:26 (KJV) “For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Take a break! Is that what Jesus is saying in this verse? Not quite, but we can definitely infer this thought from the verse. How so? Sometimes we place such an emphasis on our outside professions and external gains to the neglect of what is most important.
While we are out in the world every day forging away at creating a lifestyle of material wealth, our families are back at home suffering from a monumental loss from living with “the walking dead”. Our inner man and our walk with God suffer from malnourishment because we become too exhausted from all of the activity. This is not the life God desires for us. We are merely existing. We need to take a break from it all and get ourselves together again.
So, on this Labor Day, I would like to suggest that we all disconnect from everything outside of our homes that is demanding more from us. Sit back. Enjoy time in our Heavenly Father’s presence. He sure does miss us! Enjoy our families. They sure do miss us as well!
What is the point of gaining all of the accolades and success in the world if we lose the relationships that matter the most? Take a break today and enjoy the blessings that God has already given to us.
