The Heart Of Christ

1 John 3:17 (KJV) But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

One thing I have noticed is that it is extremely easy to overlook others in their time of need because we are so busy and consumed with our own personal problems. If we were to compare our lives to how Jesus lived, we would hardly come close to emulating the actions of our Great Master and Teacher. Jesus is often shown as overlooking His own personal needs (i.e., no home, no food at times, fatigue) to show love and compassion to those who were poor and in need (both physically and spiritually).

As Christ’s disciples, we often emulate the actions of the world instead of Christ. We pass by on the other side of the hungry, homeless person on the street (Lk. 10:25-37). We treat those who have fallen on hard times for various reasons beyond their control as unwanted and unworthy, often forgetting that we all must come before the judgment seat of Christ (Lk. 16:19-31; Rom. 14:11). We, too, can suffer the fate of these men and women; or lest we forget, some of us have been in this position and have conveniently forgotten (1 Cor. 10:12; 6:11).

Let us return unto the works of Christ by being a demonstration of His great love for all, as well as, being an example of the Father’s great grace and mercy towards us in that “…while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us…” (Rom. 5:8). We may or may not have experienced physical or material lack in our lives, but we all have experienced spiritual lack and are in need of a Savior. This makes us all one and the same. We are not better than others because of our status in life. God sees us all as a part of His creation and He loves every one of us with an everlasting love (Jer. 31:3).

If you want to make this world a better place…Show the love of Jesus Christ to others today…
