Numbers 34:1-2 (KJV) And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land of Canaan; (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan with the coasts thereof:)
When God makes promises to us, it is up to us to decide whether we choose to believe Him and walk in alignment with His plan and purposes for our lives. The promises are readily accessible contingent upon our willingness to walk in complete obedience to His commands. The children of Israel had been given the promise of the inheritance of Canaan dating back to Abraham. They were granted access to enter the Promised Land after 40 years of wilderness wandering as the result of sin and disobedience. However, they were never able to fully realize what God had envisioned for them. They were never able to completely drive out the inhabitants of the lands, thus they were never able to fully receive the promises of God. Not because God failed to fulfill His end of the covenant, but because of their reluctance to believe God and their inability to keep God’s commandments once they entered into the Promised Land.
