Isaiah 1:13 (KJV) Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
God has allowed some special observances within our lives, both individually and collectively as a spiritual community. When we begin to treat and approach these special moments as a common thing, God removes Himself from the equation because we have desecrated the significance of the special moment by taking that which was once holy and consecrated and turning it into something profane and common. These special moments were established to set us apart from the rest of the world and draw us into closer fellowship with one another and into a closer relationship with God.
The part that makes this whole matter worse is that we have done all of the above and we are still naive enough to expect God to show up as the Guest of Honor. In all honesty, why should He? Our actions do not demonstrate a genuine desire for Him to be present at all. In essence, what this means is that we have taken the Holy Presence of the King of the entire creation for granted as if we deserve It. We have presumed that if He has been available before, He will automatically bless us with His Presence once again.
This is the wrong attitude to have within our “relationship” with God and it demonstrates that we do not understand that He will not just “show up” where He is not truly wanted. It also demonstrates that we do not know and understand Who He is in relationship to everything. It is time for us to be stripped of everything and return to our First Love once again. It is the only way for us to get this life right while understanding that God is beyond granting us a fresh start if we sincerely desire Him to be the integral part of our lives.
