1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV) But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this, we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord, himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Many do not like to talk about or hear the name of Jesus. Until recently, I could never understand why. One day this past week, I was sitting and doing some soul searching, and then I had a thought, “Could it possibly be that if we begin to talk about Jesus, then there is something within humanity that knows that we will be held accountable for accepting or not accepting Him as being Who He said He is?” Why? Because the Bible teaches us that,
Philippians 2:10-11 (KJV) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Is it plausible to believe this? I believe it is. For example, many people are living unfulfilled lives and have been attempting to fill their lives with people and earthly things. Yet, there is still that level of longing for something more and whatever is used to replace the former things is never enough. I believe this is described by the Apostle Paul in Romans, chapter 1,
Romans 1:18-25 (KJV) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
In like manner, similar to “knowing” that only God can fill the voids within our lives, we “know” that if we ever begin to truly acknowledge the name of Jesus, we must begin to be held accountable for accepting or rejecting the truth of His claims to be the risen Son Of God. The part within us that rejects this claim is the sin nature that Paul says is “vain in our imaginations” wherein “our foolish hearts are darkened” (Rom. 1:21). This sinful nature is in a continuous fight against the Spirit of God as He sends us divine impulses because of His goodness, grace, and mercy (Acts 9:40).
I believe there is something within us that “knows” the truth of Jesus’ claims. Why? Paul also says,
2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (KJV) But if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Satan does not want any of us to acknowledge Jesus for Who He truly is and he will do whatever he can to prevent us from walking in this truth. What is important to remember, however, is that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. This includes Satan himself. That includes all of the forces of darkness and evil. There is not one created being that will be able to escape this moment. Therefore, we must ensure that we are on the right side of this moment.
Having said all of this, I now say: Jesus IS the Son of God and He IS the Lord over all creation. There is no way around this fact. Reality begins and ends with this fact. Truth is founded upon this fact.
Acts 4:12 (KJV) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Since we know Jesus is Who He says He Is, we also know that what He has said is true. Every word. We cannot accept Him and reject His Word because They are one. This even extends to His teaching concerning His second return. It is going to happen whether or not we choose to accept it. So my final question to you is, as the signs of the times are before us and as time is swiftly drawing to a close: if Jesus were to return today, right now, at this moment that you are reading this…Would you be ready?
