Joshua 9:14-15 (KJV) And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the Lord. And Joshua made peace with them, and made a league with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them.
We often find ourselves in critical circumstances when we make decisions prior to seeking God’s counsel. These decisions can threaten our very existence because of the potential consequences which stem from these decisions. Impulsive decision making has been the root cause for many of the world’s atrocities. Yet, history continues to repeat itself as the Bible states, “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun…” (Eccl. 1:9).
However, the Bible instructs us to “…commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established…” (Prov. 16:3). When we seek the Lord for direction, He provides us with the best counsel for every situation. At times, we may not be able to understand the direction in which the Lord may be leading us, the Apostle Paul assures us when he says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose…” (Rom. 8:28). When we place our trust in God’s wise counsel for our daily living and decision making, we soon learn that His way will always bring about the best results.
