Deuteronomy 31:18 (KJV) And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.
I believe one of my biggest fears in life is having God’s face turned away from me. Why? Having God’s face turned towards me is a symbol of His favor resting upon my life and that of the members of my household (Num. 6:24-26). So it becomes imperative for me to adhere to the commands of God because to do otherwise would result in losing God’s favor upon my household.
One of the greatest realizations I have had in life is that if it had not been for the favor of God my life, I would not have been able to accomplish anything of great substance and lasting worth. God’s daily favor upon our lives is as integral a part of our lives as the air we breathe daily. If we were to cease from breathing, we would immediately succumb to the perils of death. Likewise, if we were to lose God’s favor upon our lives, every horror of life that we could possibly imagine would come upon our households.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (Jam. 1:17).
God does not withhold His favor as means of control, but as a means of correction and redirection when we have strayed away from the path that He knows will lead us to the life of everlasting relationship with Him and the abundant life that He desires for us. Remember, He is the Giver of all things pertaining to life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3). Therefore, He only wants what He knows to best for our lives.
My friends, I do not know about you, but I know that my household and I need God’s favor to rest upon us daily. My prayer is that we all would continue to seek Him wholeheartedly and abide in Him as He continues to abide in us that His favor would remain upon our lives. May God’s face ever be turned toward us each day and forevermore…
