This Thing Called Love

1 John 3:16-17 (KJV) Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

What is amazing to me is that it took a pandemic for many to realize that we all are the same when we remove the social constructs that keep us divided. We all hurt. We all become hungry. We all need adequate rest. We all need social interactions. We all need the basic components of life to not only survive but to thrive.

What also is amazing to me is that there still remains a few who really still just do not get it. For some reason, none of what has taken place has moved them toward humanness. Some want to keep the divisive social constructs intact. Some disregard the hurt that many are experiencing. Some are not concerned about those who will go to sleep hungry because it is the only to keep them from feeling the hunger pangs. Some think that virtual interactions is sufficient but fail to realize that we all tend to thrive when our lives have been physically touched.

We are not that far removed from experiencing a loss of what makes us human. All of the technology in the world could never take the place of you and I. No amount of wealth and power can keep any of us from being the same at our very core. Because if all were to be stripped away, we all bleed the same red blood. We all need air to breathe. We all need each other. We all need love.
